Putaway is the final storage of products in a storage bin. The putaway process starts at goods receipt zone for inbound deliveries by shipment or by production and ends in the target bin. Determination of the target bin is important in regard to material flow.

A warehouse in EWM is divided into storage types and  storage sections with associated storage bins. Additionally storage bins can be subdivided into storage bin types.

To determine the target bin EWM provides different strategies which can be based on material, process or quantities. Slotting is tightly connected to the putaway process which at run-up determines optimal storage type, storage section and storage bin type, as also Storage Control which has influence on how target bins for products are determined.
